  6. Memory card

Tripod and monopod for Smartphones

The first thing that you need is a tripod. It will help you hold the smartphone camera while you take a photo, resulting in sharper and more professional-looking pictures. A tripod is also helpful if you take photos at night or during an event where there may be low light levels.

Which tripod is best for smartphone photography?

If you want a light and small tripod for smartphone photography, then the Joby GripTight Mobile from the Joby Store on Amazon is perfect. It can be mounted to any surface with its strong suction cup that also works on glass windows. It means you don’t have to carry around an extra piece of equipment or worry about not having a stable place to mount your camera. The base rotates, so it’s easy to position where needed!

Another very sturdy solution is the Joby Gorillapod 3K, which I have been using for years. It has a flexible arm that is rubberized to make it easy to grip and mount onto anything securely from the ground up 15 feet high (or more), so you can take pictures of yourself or even wildlife! Read more about my experience with the Joby Gorillapod in this article.

Some people like tripods with legs for stability, such as the Mactrem Professional Tripod with adjustable legs, smartphone mount, 360 degrees ball head, and non-slip rubber feet. You can even transform it into a monopod (or walking stick). This tripod allows users to set their camera at any angle they want while giving them options for height depending on what’s needed. You can find this versatile yet lightweight tripod between $60 and $70 on Amazon.

An alternative to a tripod is a monopod, which you can use if you need to move around with your camera. The Koolehaoda Professional Monopod extends up to 65″ and has an extra-long handle grip for more control when taking pictures; it’s also perfect as a selfie stick! Also available from Amazon.

How can I use a smartphone on a camera tripod?

If you’re looking for a portable solution, the Joby GripTight ONE Pro Camera Mount will do just fine. It’s an adjustable phone clip that attaches to any tripod and can be used with most smartphones on the market. The mount comes complete with a screw, so it’ll attach to your camera tripod in seconds! But you can also use a universal smartphone mount to attach your cellphone to a regular tripod. You can pick the clamping mount and tripod from Amazon for a very decent price. I was actually surprised about the availability of Joby Gear on Amazon. Their store is filled with top-notch smartphone camera gear.

Wireless Remote Shutter for Smartphone

Wireless Remote Shutter for Smartphone photography

The second accessory you need is a remote shutter to prevent camera-shake from a jarring hand movement. It’ll also help you take better photos of yourself because you can use the tripod and wireless shutter to capture photos of yourself.

Which wireless remote shutter should I use for smartphones?

There are many to choose from, but the Remote Camera Shutter is an excellent and budget-friendly option. You can get the wireless remote shutter from Remote Shutter from Amazon and it is compatible with most Android and iOS phones. It works up to 30 feet, is very lightweight, and uses a universal battery.

LED light or selfie ring for cellphone

The third accessory I recommend is, (also available from Amazon) a lighting attachment such as an LED light or selfie ring light so that you can create better quality pictures at nighttime without needing to use flash. Even during the daytime, it will help you create beautiful portraits.

Which LED light and selfie ring should I buy?

The LED light I recommend is the CamKix Camera Light and it is conveniently available on Amazon. It’s very affordable and has many features that make it great for both indoor and outdoor photography, including different brightness levels and power-saving mode. Hence, you save battery life when not in use, a timer function to reduce camera shake from pressing the shutter, and an optional Bluetooth remote control with up to 160 meters range.

Smartphone camera lenses

The fourth thing you should get is clip-on camera lenses, which will, for example, help give your smartphone camera the ability to capture more in-depth detail and colors that it can’t usually take on its own. Photography lenses are available for both iPhones and Android phones – just make sure the maximum phone size fits with the adapter used by your device!

I can recommend a wide-angle lens attachment from Moment (available from the Moment Shop). It will help you capture more landscape in your pictures or allow a bigger group of people without being so close to the subject. Moment has pretty awesome lenses, which you can use with a specially designed smartphone case. The quality is top-notch! You can read more about Moment and other lenses in this article.

Waterproof smartphone case

The fifth accessory is a waterproof phone case – while not very necessary when it comes to shooting mobile photography, they are great for underwater shots and come with some other features that make them worth getting!

Are there other waterproofing solutions for smartphones?

Yes! You can use a waterproof pouch like the Wilbox and Joto Universal Waterproof Pouch for a very decent price on Amazon, which will allow you to take your smartphone with you on outdoor adventures in the rain, snow, and of course, underwater. It is an affordable alternative that still provides excellent protection against water damage.

I have written an entire article about smartphones and accessories for underwater photography. You can read all about it in this article.

Micro SD card for extra memory

The last smartphone accessory you will want to buy is extra memory for your phone. Cameras have been getting better and better over the years, but one thing that hasn’t changed is how much space they require to store all of those pictures you take! Images have become bigger and bigger over the last few years, and you’ll find that your phone will fill up quickly even if it has a lot of memory on it.

The best way to combat this is by buying an extra microSD card for your phone – like the SanDisk 128GB of 256GB Ultra Memory Card from Amazon. This particular model is waterproof, shock, temperature, vibration proof, and protected from airport x-rays.

Did you know you can even buy 1 TB micro SD cards from SanDisk nowadays? It just shocked me for a minute when I saw it on Amazon, but it shows how fast development goes.

This article reviewed six different smartphone accessories essential when shooting mobile photography (or any type of photography in general). I hope it helps you in your search for the best smartphone accessories. You can find my favorite ones on the recommended gear page.
