How do you use Moment Lenses on your Phone?

Can you use a Moment lens without a case?

One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Moment Lenses is whether they fit all smartphones. And if you can use the lenses without a Moment case. Here’s the definite answer:

You can use a Moment lens without a Moment case. Instead, you can buy an M-series lens mount to adjust the lenses to your smartphone. It will work with all smartphones. So Moment lenses do not require a case.

It is not possible to buy a Moment case for all phones on the market. The manufacturers choose to design cases for all high-end smartphones from Apple, Samsung, Google, and OnePlus. Here is an overview of the available smartphone cases at the moment of writing:

Does a Moment lens work on an iPad or Tablet?

Although I always use my smartphone to take images for my business, some people use an iPad or Tablet to take photographs. Is it possible to attach a Moment lens to a tablet? 

Moment lenses work on an iPad or Tablet using an M-series lens mount available from the Moment Store. Once you remove the protective case, you can attach the lens mount and Moment lens of your choice. 

Ensure you attach the mount properly (tight) because the lenses are of excellent quality materials and therefore reasonably heavy. 

Pro tip: you can even use the Moment wide-angle lens to enhance your Zoom calls when you have an online meeting with clients, your boss, or family and friends. 

What does a Moment lens do?

Moment lenses enhance your image quality regarding wider angles, close-ups, and distorted variations. You can choose from five lenses; wide-angle, telephoto, macro, fisheye, and anamorphic. 

How do you use the Moment Wide-Angle lens?

You can attach the Moment wide-angle lens to the M-series smartphone case suitable for your mobile. Or you can get yourself an M-series phone mount, which works with pretty much all smartphones. 

A wide-angle lens allows you to capture more of a particular scene in one image. I mainly use the lens for landscape photography, but it is also helpful for cityscapes and architectural photography. 

You can get closer to the subject and still get everything in one frame. It helps capture the vastness of landscapes and buildings.

How do you use the Moment Telephoto lens?

You can attach the telephoto lens to the Moment case or Moment lens mount like the wide-angle lens. It would be best to connect the lens mount pretty tight to your phone. The lens is made from excellent quality materials and therefore a bit heavier than you might expect. 

I usually tell amateur photographers to zoom with their feet and not use the built-in digital zoom of the mobile camera. But the telephoto lens from Moment has an optical zoom, which is much better. Moreover, this lens will get you closer to the subject without disturbing them or it. 

You can even use the telephoto lens over the existing telelens on your smartphone. You need to manually select the lens you want to choose in your phone’s camera app. In combination with the telelens of your smartphone, the telephoto lens can significantly optimize the depth of field.

How do you use the Moment Macro lens?

You can use the macro lens from Moment on the Moment O-series and M-series cases or a Moment lens mount, available from the online store. 

The macro lens allows you to get up close and personal with your subject without compromising sharpness and detail. It’s excellent for shooting floral images, water droplets, fungi, dragonflies, or other insects. 

You will need a tripod and remote shutter to go with this set-up to prevent camera shake. You can find my favorite tripod and wireless shutter on my favorite gear page. It’s a pretty good investment considering that you can use them well for all your photography.

How do you use the Moment Fisheye lens?

The Moment fisheye lens can be combined with the Moment case or lens mount. So it is available for every smartphone photographer. 

You can get highly creative while using fisheye lenses. For example, the lens will curve straight lines, so the curving becomes less noticeable if you photograph round subjects like tubes, stairways, or chapel sealing. 

Also, you can get much more of an object in the frame. For example, when you stand under the Eiffeltower or in a giant redwood forest, you can still capture the entire building or tree from top to bottom. Pretty neat!

How do you use the Moment Anamorphic lens on a phone?

The Moment Anamorphic lens can be attached to Moment cases or lens mount, just as all the other lenses can. Ensure you attach the lens mount appropriately so it won’t come off during one of your photography adventures. You might have to remove the protective case of your camera, but it can work with the case. 

The Anamorphic lens from Moment creates a cinematic look to your photos and videos. It has an ultra-wide rectangular aspect ratio with long horizontal flares. As a result, the lens will change the picture’s dimensions on one axis. It will be squeezed, which you can edit in post-processing. 

You will get the best result when you get close to your subject. Especially when it is centered, you will create a dramatic look. 

Another tip is to use the Moment app when using an iPhone. You will get a life preview of the anamorphic look, so basically, you can turn on the de-squeeze option and check whether or not the image will turn out the way you want.

Can I use a Moment lens on the front-facing camera?

You can use any Moment lens on the front-facing camera while using a Moment lens mount. Because the Moment M-series lens mount is detachable, you can transfer it from the primary camera lens on the back to the front camera. 

Do I need an app to use Moment lens?

You don’t need an app to use any Moment lens. It comes in handy, though, especially for taking images with the anamorphic lens. Unfortunately, the Moment app, called Pro Camera, is only available for Apple phones. 

How do you carry your Moment lenses?

Moment has created some handy and weatherproof lens cases you can use to carry your Moment lenses around. You can choose between the weatherproof mobile lens case, the standard mobile lens carrying case, and the dual mobile lens pouch. 

The first two cases fit four lenses, and the dual-lens pouch fits 2 Moment lenses. Using a case will prevent your lenses from being vulnerable to damage. You can even include a small microfiber cloth inside to clean the lens for every photoshoot. My favorite cloths are available from Amazon for a few bucks.
